I am Adam Kane
I was a pioneer of genetic research,
Manipulating DNA to save human lives.
But in many their genes unexpectedly Mutated.
They developed super-human abilities.
Together with four of the most powerful
I fight to protect a world that doesn't even know we exist.
We are MUTANT X.

The Main Story

The Main Story of Mutant X revolves around Dr. Adam Kane, arguably the smartest man alive, he was a geneticist at the Breedlove Foundation that later on became known as Genomex. He was trying to save the lives of people that were desperately ill or wouldn't survive normally by changing and tampering with their DNA. The process had been originally made by Dr. Paul Breedlove, and was somewhat perfected by Adam Kane.

In the first season, Adam Kane told his story about how he'd found out about the non-too-pleasant experiments being done at Genomex that he'd found out via some dubious funds. He fled from Genomex and went into hiding, using his considerable fortune he made his home Sanctuary inside Stormking Mountain near the coast. He also helped set up the New Mutant Underground, which would provide desperately needed hiding and safe heaven for New Mutants, who after starting to appear in the news were being captured by the GSA to be used for Mason Eckhart's (the leader of the GSA) own devious ends.

Together with four of the most powerful New Mutants, he found and saved many New Mutants from the grasp of the GSA, and also helped find places for many of them to stay. Often his team found themselves fighting against New Mutants, either evil or manipulated by Eckhart, from harming Humanity.

In the Second Season, Adam Kane continued his work against a new enemy. Mason Eckhart was placed inside of a Stasis Pod and would not reappear until later. His main enemy now was Patient Zero, Gabriel Ashlocke who wanted to use his New Mutant powers to rule the world. He gathered around him a following, that seemed cult-ish and in many instances involved a lot of women willing to die for him.

When his powers were destabilizing he tried to bring an Ancient Egyptian Alchemist back to help him, the Mutant X team thwarted him, and the Alchemist was gone. Then Gabriel did his best to make Adam save his life, however Gabriel did die and was killed as he exploded from the inside out (in a non-gruesome way I assure you) and his powers completely destroyed him.

When Nick Fox's company blew up at the end of Season 2, Emma deLauro, the psionic of the team, died and Adam faked his own death. Although this wasn't discovered until well into Season Three.

At Season Three enter the Dominion and Lexa Pierce, a replacement for Emma. This Chromatic Molecular claimed to be the first ever member of Mutant X, and knew Adam's password which was her name. She was working for the shadowy company known as the Dominion, although in past had worked for Eckhart at Genomex in hopes that he had information about her twin brother Leo, who in times of anger was called Troy. She was later forced to kill her brother after having finally found him, to stop him murdering fellow team mate Brennan Mulwray. She, however, held Brennan responsible for his death. Jesse Kilmartin, the other Molecular in the team was attracted to Lexa. Commenting after Lexa said that New Mutant's should have children, that he thought otherwise and that if she had children the world would be full of "beautiful, stubborn little Lexa's."

When Jesse came up to his expiration date (the day when New Mutant's are supposed to be killed by their powers), Lexa tried to save him from the Dominion who would kill him. In the season Finale it was discovered that Adam Kane (who admitted that even after he'd left Genomex, had continued to experiment on New Mutants) had worked for the Dominion from the beginning. Meaning he'd lied to the team the entire time they'd known him. He also turned out to be a clone of the leader of the Dominion.

A Fan's View

As soon as Adam's line was said and the music started up, I was hooked. I was watching it at my grandfather's house and it was the time I spent with him straight after school while he was my child minder that was taken up watching Mutant X on Sky One.

I loved what I saw of the first two seasons, found the team dynamic brilliant and Adam Kane a really interesting character. One of my favorites from the show was Jesse Kilmartin.

Mason Eckhart made the perfect bad guy and Gabriel Ashlocke was a great replacement for him. The Show seemed to work very well.

Enter third season, Emma's death and Lexa Pierce. I was not such a big fan. They'd taken a perfectly great team dynamic and ruined it by taking away a defensive character and putting in a cloned Shalimar with different powers. Although the powers were pretty cool, I also had a problem with Lexa's attitude of just walking in and assuming command. However, this is just my view and many liked Karen Cliche's performance. I and my grandfather just happen to not be among them.

More disappointments were to follow with the discovery of Adam being a clone. This also did not sit well with me, and the shadowy ethics of Adam that in the first two seasons had brought the team together as a Moral center was a real downer for me as this was a character I truly adored and had always found to be a moral and ethical character.

Although I was upset when they canceled the show, having hoped that they would redeem themselves in Season four somehow. Some way. I was also slightly relieved as the show had just been completely changed bit by bit with the exception of the three team members, Shalimar, Brennan and Jesse.

Common Misconceptions

  • The Show Mutant X is not based off the comic of Mutant X.
  • Although the show does contain 'New Mutants' they did not reach their powers such as Jean Grey or Wolverine did via natural mutation, but by geneticists altering their DNA.
  • The show, although from Marvel Studios, is not in any way related to X-Men, despite the similarity in concepts and name.
  • Adam Kane is not Professor X (a.k.a. Charles Xavier) for the following reasons:

1, He's not paraplegic.
2, He's not a Mutant or even a New Mutant.
3, He's far too pretty ;-)

  • Mason Eckhart is not Andy Warhol, don't let the hair confuse you. Pop Artists are not the bad guys in the Mutant X universe.
